Badger Meter, a leading provider of water-management technologies, plays an important role in the development of the intoDBP project through s::can, its water-quality monitoring subsidiary and an official project partner. Through s::can, the company contributes its expertise in online monitoring as the project develops a source-to-tap surveillance strategy using sensors and data to understand when and where DBPs may form.

One of its main contributions is the generation of real-time water-quality information. Researchers can combine this information with laboratory measurements and predictive models, supporting both the monitoring of DBP formation and the optimisation of water-treatment processes.

This contribution can be seen in the project’s Madrid case study at the Valmayor Drinking Water Treatment Plant. Here, s::can is involved in the deployment of two UV-VIS sensors to support the monitoring of final disinfection with chloramines. By providing continuous information about changing water conditions, these technologies can help researchers and operators identify potential risks earlier and make better-informed treatment decisions.

Through this approach, the project aims to move drinking-water management from occasional sampling towards more continuous and predictive monitoring. The information generated can help to:
