Researchers have drastically reduced their consumption of bottled water following the alarming discovery of nearly a quarter of a million microplastic and nanoplastic pieces per litre.
Using advanced microscopic technology with dual lasers, scientists at US universities Columbia and Rutgers identified and quantified these tiny plastic particles for the first time. Analyzing samples from three popular bottled water brands, the study revealed particle levels ranging from 110,000 to 400,000 per litre, with an average of around 240,000.
The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, unveils a plastic pollution crisis in bottled water. Learn more about the research at this link.
