From April 8th to 10th, the 7th International Conference for Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP) gathered 120 leading experts and researchers from over 30 countries in Frankfurt to discuss the latest developments in water and wastewater treatment technologies. intoDBP project coordinator, Dr. Wolfgang Gernjak from the ICRA, was invited to deliver a plenary lecture on the opening day.

Dr. Gernjak provided attendees with an insightful overview of the potential applications and current implementation status of Advanced Oxidation and Reduction Processes (AOP/ARP). His presentation highlighted innovative approaches and ongoing challenges in the field, aligning closely with intoDBP’s mission of developing sustainable strategies to protect water resources and minimise harmful disinfection by-products.

The first day of the conference featured an engaging workshop on “AOP for water and wastewater treatment,” led by Dr. Uwe Hübner from Xylem Inc. (Germany). The session emphasised key barriers to the large-scale adoption of novel Advanced Oxidation Processes and explored solutions to streamline process upscaling through standardised experimental procedures and benchmarking.

Throughout the conference, attendees had the opportunity to explore 47 scientific posters, participate in 13 dynamic poster pitches, and engage in valuable networking and discussions.
