On December 13, 2024, Girona hosted a key meeting of the intoDBP Case Study Board, bringing together 32 participants, including industry representatives, government officials, and NGOs. The meeting showcased significant progress in addressing disinfection by-products (DBPs) and advancing sustainable water management.

The event focused on updates from the Spanish case study sites, highlighting:

  • UV-Vis Algorithms for DBP Prediction (WP2): Progress in utilizing advanced algorithms to predict DBP formation.
  • Mitox Technology (WP4): Development of chloramine production systems and their implementation.
  • Drinking Water Preferences (WP6): Results of a population survey in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.
  • Catchment Forecasting Models (WP5): Innovations in forecasting dissolved organic matter in the Sau Reservoir.

The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration, with feedback from stakeholders shaping the project’s market relevance and implementation strategies. The intoDBP consortium was well-represented, with contributions from partners ICRA, ATL, ISGlobal, Canal Isabel II, Badger Meter, and CEAB-CSIC.

This engagement is pivotal in ensuring that intoDBP’s tools and strategies align with real-world needs, paving the way for effective solutions to minimise human exposure to DBPs while safeguarding water quality.
